deoxyribonuclease (Dnase)
An enzyme that catalyses the cleavage of DNA. DNase I is a digestive enzyme secreted by the pancreas, that degrades DNA into shorter nucleotide fragments. Many other endonucleases and exonucleases are involved in DNA repair and replication.
