Simplu, de obicei un singur unicelular animal a cărui celule conţin un nucleu. Exemple includ flagellates, amoebas, ciliate, sporozoa, radiolaria şi noroi matrite. Unele (microalge) sunt fotosintetice, cele mai multe sunt microscopice; toate stau la baza web alimentare.
